ZAMI NOBLA Community Archivist Project

Led by Creative Director Angela Denise Davis, ZAMI NOBLA's Community Archivist Project is a year-long initiative within the ZAMI NOBLA Leadership Institute dedicated to preserving and honoring the rich histories, stories, and legacies of Black lesbians aged 40 and older.

In commemoration of six years of podcasting, ZAMI NOBLA has launched this oral herstory project with 14 ZAMI NOBLA members. This project aims to document the lived experiences of ZAMI NOBLA members and other older, Black lesbians through oral histories, storytelling, and archival efforts, ensuring that our contributions and voices are recognized and remembered.

They are learning how to collect stories, preserve documents, and keep memories alive so that there will be a receipt of Black lesbian movement work. ZAMI NOBLA is assisted by two interns—graduate-level students enrolled in the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at Georgia State University.

By engaging in this work, ZAMI NOBLA fosters intergenerational connections, strengthens community bonds, and contributes to a more inclusive historical narrative that celebrates the survival, wisdom, and movement work of aging Black lesbians.

Special thanks to our partner, Invisible Histories, who has provided invaluable knowledge and support.
